Painting Exhibition by Mohammad fadavi
The paintings of Mohammad Fadavi are works derived from the eastern attitudes toward the world of existence, and take shape on canvas in the heat of the event. The concerns for identity and the mysterious mechanisms of imagination bestow a poetic essence to the oeuvres, which are all too familiar for the Iranian eyes. Light, hope, life, living and dynamism swirl around colors rising from the ground to create the vision of the Promised Land. Domes, high rising wind towers, interconnecting vaults, old windows and wooden doors appear beyond any plane and line to fade away a moment later in the brightness of the background. This appearance and disappearance is the translation of the Iranian spiritual teachings; which get renewed significance in the challenge between light and darkness, existence and oblivion, life and death this time in the heart of color and line and light and shadows, to eternalize the instant of being. The involvement with soil is a blessing having roots in the grace and benevolence of the creator, and this time color and line mingle with accident to prepare a body, a statuette that has an angel like aspect and demonic face. It changes color at an instant, dances like a fish in the waves of existence and finally leaves nothing behind but a memory in the white spread of life.
Although the poetic attitude of the artist towards the topic of heart is derived from the accomplishments of the oriental vision, the images of hand written scripts and the local desert architectures, but the effects of modern art are also quite visible in his works. The division of the architectural dimensions into flat surfaces, which at times reaches the limits of geometric abstraction, recalls the manners of cubism. On the other hand through these flat surfaces with random textures; the traces of roller or spatula on canvas, cardboard and wood one can discern the artist's actions in the process of creating the artwork, and from this aspect they are something out of functionalist and behaviorist art. Furthermore, the avoidance of depth and the attempt to represent dimension by transparent planes, subtle rhythm and wonderful simplifications have given Fadavi's paintings a minimalist flavor. All things in these canvases are simple and deep and for this reason they form a general concept. Each line and plane is a symbolic representation of human presence in the arena of existence, which becomes concrete through an internal discovery to reveal the spiritualism of matter in a visual interpretation.
This minimalist approach is also observed in the artist's choice of palette. The selection of ochre, brown and beige underlines the notion of soil as the constituent element of human being. Then on the painting's screen they become a safe refuge for the soul, where each window becomes an opening for the flight of imagination amidst the rhythm of planes. To understand such spaces one must escape the external world and explore the world within, where the untouched nature mingles with the thin branches of a young tree, demanding a dreamlike contemplation.
